Details: On September 25th and 26th, Shiloh National Military Park will host Fowler`s Alabama Battery. The unit will be dressed in Union blue, portraying the 1st Ohio Battery, which fought at Shiloh. Located in Powell Field immediately south of the National Cemetery, the unit will provide visitors with a period camp and will offer live firing demonstrations throughout the two days. The unit will also provide information on the type of artillery projectiles used during the Civil War. This demonstration will take place along General Grant`s historic "Last Line of Defense." See the schedule below for specific firing times. The 1st Ohio Light Artillery Battery, Battery G, was recruited at Cleveland and Painesville, Ohio. The battery was organized and mustered into Federal Service on December 17, 1861, at Camp Dennison.After organization, the battery left Camp Dennison on February 10, 1862, and embarked on a steamboat at Cincinnati, Ohio. On February 11th, Battery G disembarked and went into camp at Camp Jesse D. Bright, Jeffersonville, Indiana. The battery left Camp Jesse D. Bright by boat on February 27th, bound for Nashville, Tennessee. The unit disembarked at Nashville on March 4th, 1862. The battery left Nashville for Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee on March 18th, 1862.At the Battle of Shiloh, the battery was attached to the Fifth Division, Army of the Ohio. The commanding officer was Captain Joseph Bartlett. The battery consisted of four 6-pounder guns, and two 12-pounder Wiard Rifles. The battery was heavily engaged during the battle. The unit expended 600 rounds of ammunition.
The casualties for Battery G, 1st Ohio Light Artillery Battery at the Battle of Shiloh were 2 men wounded. The loss of war material for the unit during the battle was one horse killed, and one set of harness lost. Saturday, September 25 11:30 a.m.
