Sabin Elementary Magnet School Reviews

This school is bilingual and has teachers that really care about their students. They provide plenty of extra learning opportunities outside of class as well.

My son has been going to Sabin since kinder. and its wonderful the teachers r very supporting and the asst. prin. is wonderful always there to hear u out

I want to congratulate the Principal and the teachers for their well done jobe during the last year and the energy that they demostrate the first day @ school year. I think that exist a lack of cultural sensitive and communications. I don't accept as a theory that the parents of this particular school are not interested in their children education, the true here is that the principal and his staff are not effective to finding a different ways to have the parents motivated in the school activities, because they can mesuare that parent involvement only to show up to a meeting or the open house day if they got the information the date before. Please be more efficient in the communication and doing a variety of activities that involve parents of all kind. Best whishes!!!

I love this school. The principal and staff are sensitive to the needs of the children. However the lack of parental involvement is disturbing to me. This school could be so much better if parents would become involve in their child's education.

I have attended workshops for parents in the morning and the evening. I have learned a lot about ways to help my child read. My son is new to the school and has struggled with reading. This school has done so much to help me understand and my son loves reading now. He has read to me for the first time. Thank you Sabin, the reading teacher, and the counselor to.

im very satisfied with the teachers at sabin itss the administration what im ? now.its been brought to my att that the kids disipline has gotten out off line.i feel like the kids need to be treated with respect and i dont see that at the school,i would like for this to change because kids are not there to be punnished but to be teached and feel safe not worried about going .hopefully this matter changes because i love this school and the education for my kids its very important to me.academicly im satisfied with the school and i take my hat off for those teachers that make a difference on all this kids at that school.

I have been a teacher for a great many years, and I would like to say thank you to the administration and instructional team. They have provided great professional development, allowed teachers time to collaborate, helped answer questions, and visited our classrooms frequently. I really feel that the current team is working to include the community partnerships, parents, teacher feedback and input from children in their decisions. We have been able to attend outside workshops and even visit other schools. Thank you very much for the learning environment that you are creating for us.

I think Sabin Magnet is agreat school for learning. My child was attending my neighborhood school till 4th grade and someone told me about Sabin. I was so impress with the school administrators, teachers and staff they are all very freindly. I have also told other friends and family members about the school. Sincerely, A Happy Parent

I am so greatly indebted to the schools administration and faculty who have helped inspire my son in ways that I cannot begin to count. Upon enrolling my son at Sabin in 2006 I did not know what to expect as my son would be attending his first school ever in the United States. I did not know what fears lay ahead for my son and his new adventures. My greatest fears were laid to rest on his first day home from school. He said 'Dad, I like it here a lot' and with that being said, Sabin has meant so very much to me and my family. Mr. Dassinger has had a tremendous interest in not only my sons education but to each and every student and parent as well. I tip my hat to Mr. Dassinger and to his entire administration for their endearing efforts to educate our childen.

Sabin is a great school - I have had two children graduate and 2 who are still at the school. I love the new administration and phenomenal teachers - they have done great things to improve the education my children receive. The after school program is amazing - my kids look forward to attending. I am extremely satisfied with the education my children receive.

I truly admire the staff at Sabin Magnet School. The new administrative team has readily returned phoned calls and gone out of there way to support my son. As a single mother, I have expressed concerns about my son's success. At each turn, the Sabin instructional team has reached out to my son to help him in ways that simply go above and beyond the classroom curriculum. I have been able to meet with counselors about my son's achievement in school, reviewed specific progress my son was making with the teacher, and the reading specialist helped by suggesting ways I can help my son at home within a limited time frame. Each time I go to Sabin, I feel that the emphasis is on the children. I would highly recommend this school to any parent who wants a quality education for their child.

I myself was a student at sabin along time ago and as a parent i want the best for my daughter. Seeing her potential and knowing that she can reach for the stars i decided to try to apply to as many magnet schools as i could. Although she got accepted to a few my first choice was Sabin because from experience i know i would be making the right choice. Shes in 3rd grade and i am not going to say that its been easy the transition for her has been a very emotional one. She misses her old friends and even though she has been an honer roll student all her life its been a challenge but with the help of her teacher who is such a support system and really puts her children first i know it will get better.

I have a son who is in his 2nd year there after being transfered from another school. In the other school he was breezing thru the grade with mostly A and 1 or 2 B's but since the tranfer I notice it is a bit more challenging for him. He's doing well but has to work a bit hard, which to is a good thing. Next year I plan to transfer my kindergarden child there for 1st grade.

I have always been a strong Sabin supporter, however, I am very dismayed with the new principal and his attitude toward parents and the LSC. He has his own agenda and disregards parent viewpoints and concerns. I wish I had not attended LSC meetings, because I would almost prefer to be in the dark, than to know the way he disregards the caring parents on the LSC and makes huge changes without a second thought. Changing start times and demoting the AP have been particularly disturbing. I am disheartened by his attitude and am looking for a better fit for my children/family.

I have two children at sabin, it is their second year there. I'm very happy of the progress my children has shown being at the school. In the beginning my children struggled because they are english dominate, but are learning more and more each day and are working hard in their studies. I want to thank the teachers for an out standing job Mrs. Velez, Mrs. Melcado kindergarten teachers and Mrs. Belfort third grade teacher. I also want to thank the before school and after school staff Ms.O and Ms. Diane, Mrs.Navidad. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Anna Rodriguez happy parent.

My Dauthers have been at sabin Since Kindergarden,i have nothing but praises to the school staff teachers, they are all great, I personally miss the old timers teachers, but the new ones are also good. The principal have a great attitude and is making great progress within the school program.

Sabin had many problems. Not anymore. What a difference!! The new Principal has taken control of everything. He is young, but very energetic. He has included the teachers in the curriculum decisions and changes that seem to have been for the better. There is a different atmosphere, and children have positive re-enforcement. Overall, the teachers that are there now seem to be the perfect group. All are knowledgeable, many hold their masters and I, having children in different grades am pleased with the way they are being taught and treated. The change in administration was all Sabin needed. I would recommend the school especially now that's emphasizing teaching spanish well and with grammar which is far better than what they've had. A dual language program graduating non-fluent kids to a World-language-Spanish graduating fluent ones, I would have to bet on World-language. I am very happy now.

Parental involvement is slowly increasing which is a tremendous plus for the school. The teachers, especially in primary grades, seem to have the students as their first priority. Although, the teachers seem to have different methodological approaches to the development of its Dual Language program, which in my opinion is impeding its success. The classroom size is ideal for enriched learning to take place, unfortunately the school has not taken a zero tolerance with discipline and students are not empowered to resolve their own conflicts. The school's vision seems defined, but unless the administration leads its staff by equipping them with the necessary tools, it will never reach its goal.

I think Sabin is great but there needs to be some changes on certin workers attitudes.

I love the teachers at Sabin. They're dedicated, and enthusiastic. I'm concerned that the Dual Language program isn't beneficial for my nephew, but we're giving it a shot.

This school is really great. My child will be learning Spanish as a dual language and that's very important for our culture.

This is my daughters 5th year at Sabin. Although the quality of education is still good, It is my opinion that parent involvement/interaction, which is very important, has suffered greatly under the current principal. She does not seem to be one who is 'welcoming' or receptive towards parents. Several parents have voiced concerns regarding this at one time or another and there are those who are afraid to because of possible repercussions against their children. The student enrollment has droped to about 510. One of the reasons seems to be that the parents have no confidence/trust in the principal. It is very sad that this situation exists at this school.

My children have attended Sabin for the last four years. The school has a great spanish program that my children have benefitied from greatly. The special ed program is taught by highly skilled and motivated teachers. My child has increased his reading levels by three grades in just a years time. Their sports program is coached by a great caring person who teaches the children great values and to do their best. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. Sabin's principle is a kind and strong person who knows each child on a first name basis. The science program is also wonderful and makes students strive to do their best. Sabin is somewhat a smaller school but the advantage is that teachers and staff knows ea child and their family. I am very satified and would highly recommend Sabin school to other interested parents.
